Mr. Akhtar Ahmed, ACII, is the Chief Consultant to the management of Reliance Insurance Limited from 2020 immediately after ending of his long tenor of service as the Adviser of the company. He was also the Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Insurance Limited.
In his unparalleled services to the insurance world, Mr. Ahmed has previously served in the different capacities at home and aboard. At the very onset of his career in insurance, he joined Eastern Federal Union Insurance Company, the largest insurance company in the then Pakistan, as an Executive Officer. Following the nationalization of Bangladesh insurance sector in the year 1972, his services were absorbed in Sadharan Bima Corporation, the only state-owned non-life insurer in Bangladesh.
In 1981 Mr. Ahmed joined Asian Reinsurance Corporation, Bangkok, an inter-governmental organization set up by the United Nations (UN), and there he served in various Managerial position till 1989.
!Again in the year 1989 he joined Arab Insurance Group, the largest insurance organization in the Middle East where he served for a period of 14 years in various positions such as Chief Manager, and Regional General Manager. Afterward the Board of Arab Insurance Group has promoted him to the rank of Chief Executive for its Far East operations based in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
After successful completion of three decades of services in the different international insurance organizations, Mr. Ahmed returned back Bangladesh in 2003 the year when Government of Bangladesh has assigned him the role of Managing Director of Sadharan Bima Corporation with a view to reviving the national insurer.
Thereafter in early of 2005 Mr. Ahmed served as Consultant to KPMG, a global network of professional firms providing Audit, Advisory and Tax services, for setting up of a large Reinsurance company in the Middle East. In the same year he joined Reliance Insurance Limited as its Managing Director & CEO where he continued till to March 2014.
Mr. Ahmed was raised in Bangladesh and later attended the University of Dhaka where he did B.A. (Honours) and M.A. in the year 1970. Professionally he is also the Associate Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, United Kingdom.
